Volunteer Information

The Saskatchewan Society for Education Through Art wants to increase its support and advocacy for quality visual art education to all people in Saskatchewan. We are looking for people who are committed and dedicated to visual art education to help us ensure that wherever and whenever there is a need for visual art education the need is met.

To help us meet this ongoing and ever changing need we are looking for people who want to have an impact in visual art education and make a difference in their community. We have many different positions available and can match you with the volunteer opportunity that meets your interest and time availability.

CLERICAL / OFFICE

We are looking for someone with good office skills and who enjoys getting thing done. The abilities to work on your own along with good organizational skills are definite assets. Activities may include letter writing, phone calls, filing, general office organization and assistance with mail outs. Experience with computers would be an asset. Preferred time commitment would be 2 - 4 hours a week, during regular business hours.

FUND DEVELOPMENT

We are looking for people interested in assisting with making sure we have the funds necessary for our programs and services to grow. This could include sitting on a committee to develop a fund development strategy or casual assistance with the planning and implementation of fund development activities. The time committment for the committee would be approximately 1 meeting per month with some additional time required for fundraising activities. People assisting with activities would commit for a minimum of 2 - 3 hours per activity and would be welcome to assist as often as they would like.

GOVERNANCE

We are seeking people interested in helping with the management and direction of the SSEA. We currently have 2 positions open on the Board of Directors and are seeking people to fill positions on committees. There are usually 5 - 6 board meetings per year. Committees will likely meet a minimum of 4 - 6 times per year, depending on the committee.

SPECIAL EVENTS/CASUAL

Special Event volunteers will help with the preparation of programs, services, fundraising activities and short term projects like retreats and conferences. Hours are flexible and depend on the need of the program and availability of the volunteer.

MINISTER'S COLLECTION

The Minister's Collection is a showcase of student art that is collected, juried, and selected pieces are hung in the Cumberland Gallery in the legislature for approximately one month. The Minister of Education selects a few pieces to hang in the Ministry office for a year. We are looking for people interested in helping increase participation from across Saskatchewan and for those who would be interested in any part of the implementation: jury, framing, hanging, and/or helping with the celebration event in Regina.

MEMBERSHIP

Membership volunteers would promote the SSEA and assist in membership drives and identifying strategies and activities to increase members. The time commitment may vary from 1 - 3 hours per month, with some increase in time commitment during a formal membership drive.

AREA REPRESENTATIVE

Area Representatives from across the province would assist the SSEA in the promotion of activities. They would help identify gaps in their area so that we can help meet community needs for visual art education opportunities.

ART EXHIBITIONS

We have 1 - 2 Art Educator Exhibitions each year and are looking for people interested in helping increase participation from across Saskatchewan and for those who would be interested in any part of the implementation: jury, framing, hanging, and/or helping with the opening celebrations of the exhibitions.

MENTORSHIP

We are looking for educators who are interested in sharing their knowledge and expertise with new teachers and/or teachers new to art education. This can be done in person or by phone and email. The time required would be about 3 - 4 hours per mentoring match.

MAS call for First People & Metis Museum Professionals to join our Special Interest Group

MAS is seeking First People and M?tis Museum Professionals to join our Special Interest Group (SIG). First People and Metis who are interested in conserving heritage and want to be a voice for their concerns and perspectives regarding working in museums will benefit from joining this group. You bring a unique perspective to your place of employment. This SIG provides an opportunity for you to meet with other people who are in similar situations. The First People and Metis Museum Professionals SIG provides a forum for discussion. The first meeting with the new Director of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage is scheduled for May 27th. There are no per diems or travel provided but lunch will be served. An evening cultural activity has been tentatively scheduled. The agenda will be about your concerns.
