Local Students Unveil Artwork That Educates Nation About Rideau Canal Heritage

Project becomes an integral part of Rideau Canal Festival in Nation’s Capital

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan--(June 9, 2009) – Today, the Georges Vanier Catholic Fine Arts School unveiled a unique, national art project called the Rideau Canal Connection Project. This project was created in partnership with Ottawa-based Vincent Massey School and the Rideau Canal Festival and adds a new educational dimension to the annual Rideau Canal Festival held in Ottawa during the Civic Holiday, July 31 to August 3.

Saskatchewan School Library Association

In 2009, the Saskatchewan School Library Association (SSLA) celebrates 50 years of leadership in the development, promotion, and improvement of school libraries. To commemorate the Association’s golden anniversary, a new website has been launched to move the SSLA into the 21st century. School libraries and teacher-librarians have an important role to play in the delivery of inquiry-based curricula. It is therefore hoped that the SSLA website will be a useful resource for all educators.

Saskatchewan Arts Alliance (SAA), a non-profit coalition of arts organizations, provides a collective voice for the arts in Saskatchewan. Established in 1984, SAA advocates on issues such as public funding of the arts, freedom of expression and artists' working conditions.

SThe Cultural Exchange is a space to create, share, perform, experience, learn and have fun. The Cultural Exchange is a non-profit organization led by a volunteer Board of Directors and managed by a diverse team of professionals. Existing since 1979 the Cultural Exchange has undergone a number of incarnations over the last 31 years. This year the Cultural Exchange is returning to its roots, delivering programming. This time it's vision "art for everyone" is rooted in the Warehouse District of Regina and open to the province and the world.

This issue features a story about Maritime portrait artist Ann Balch and BC urban landscape artist Victoria Heryet. This issue also includes more coverage of the Star Portraits series, coverage of the Kingston Prize and an update on the new Art Gallery of Alberta.

The upcoming competition is 'Artists' Favorite Subjects' and the deadline has been extended to Dec. 11, 2009.  We will also be doing another plein air issue featuring winter plein air scenes, so be sure to read The Last Word on Page 24 for more information.

Canadian Brushstroke Magazine is released every two months but due to the holiday season, the next issue after this one will be released at the end of the third week in January.
